A classroom session looking at how and why birds sing, aids to learning to recognise birdsong, alarm and contact calls, followed by a short walk to put the theory into practice and then a longer guided walk after lunch.

Please bring a packed lunch and binoculars if you have them.

Liz Huxley is an experienced local birdwatcher, having travelled widely in the UK and abroad in search of birds for about 30 years. She worked for Essex Wildlife Trust for 15 years at Abberton Reservoir Visitor Centre; and is now a wildlife photographer who enjoys sharing her knowledge and passion for wildlife leading events and guided walks. Tea, coffee & biscuits will be provided and are included in the donation fee. You are more than welcome to bring additional refreshments & snacks.

What to bring
Sturdy footwear suitable for muddy conditions (walking boots or Wellingtons) and warm, waterproof clothes suitable for the day’s weather conditions, we will go outside whatever the weather!
You will need to bring lunch/refreshments as we will be on site for much of the day.
Binoculars will also be useful.
