Event details

26 April 2017 - 7:00pm - 8:30pm

Guided walk with Pat Doody to see snake's head fritillaries and other spring wildlife.

Believed to be the largest flood-plain meadow in England, this Special Area of Conservation has an internationally recognised flora. One of the specialities is a good-sized population of snake's head fritillaries which should be showing well for this evening walk. Hopefully there should be some birds and insects to see as well.
Pat Doody, who probably knows more than anyone about the meadow, will show us the main fritillary area and some of the other sites as well as other spring meadow wildflowers and wildlife. He will also cover the fascinating history of the meadow. We will meet at Godmanchester Lock, which you can reach from a number of directions: Closest parking for those who do not want to walk is in Godmanchester then walk via the Chinese Bridge. Or park at Brampton Mill and allow 30mins or so to walk there via Bromholme Lane and under the railway. Huntingdon bus or railway stations are also not far away - about 20mins walk via the gate from Mill Common. IF the ferry is running it might be possible to travel between the Mill and the lock (if it’s likely to be running we will publish a contact number here nearer the time).
