Event details

25 August 2017 - 1:30pm - 4:30pm

Earn AQA accredited certificates as part of a course in Habitat Management and Community Engagement culminating in a certificate and working reference from GWT.

The Our Bright Future course is an ongoing programme that seeks to give 16-24 year olds valuable skills in creating and managing green spaces for the benefit of local wildlife. Activities include, but are not limited to, building bird and bat boxes, making raised flower beds, wildlife gardening and general grounds maintenance.

This is an excellent opportunity to learn transferable skills while gaining AQA Accreditations leading to a certificate in Habitat Management and Community Engagementupon completion of 8 sessions. A working reference can also be provided to those participants who complete the course.

All sessions are ongoing and take place at the Redwell Centre, Gloucester, with the possibilty of away days to work on one of the local wildlife reserves. Our Bright Future is a rolling programme, with no specific start or end date and all sessions taking place on Fridays 13.30-16.30. Free to come along to a taster session and see if this course is right for you.

Over the most recent sessions the team has been built a dead hedge from willow branches, which will provide a great habitat for invertebrates, fungi and birds. Since then the group has prepared the soil beneath the dead hedge and subsequently sown an 'urban woodland' seedpack, as provided by Grow Wild. This contains a number of shade tolerant species, including betony, selfheal, red campion and ragged robin. Once established and flowering, these will provide food sources for a range of pollinators, bringing our dead hedge to life!

Please contact Duncan Murdoch prior to attending a session, or to ask any further questions about the course, via the email  duncan.murdoch@gloucestershirewildlifetrust.co.ukor via the telephone number 07464 486826

The course falls under the Big Lottery Fund's national" Our Bright Future" programme, which aims to empower young people to lead on progressive change in their communities and local environments.
